Can underlying issues cause CMOS corruption?

Published: March 17, 2008

Cause - Various

CMOS corruption does not typically stem from an underlying issue. Most CMOS corruption is caused by common power fluctuations such as a surge, brownout, and/or improper shutdown of the unit. If you are experiencing issues that are not solved by a reboot, usually resetting the CMOS is the best troubleshooting step. If CMOS settings continue to be lost or corrupted, the CMOS battery may need to be replaced.
